Chirag Arora carries Devesh Joshi to complete the cross country

It was a year back when Chirag Arora made news. He was in his sixth-term at the prestigious National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla near Pune, where he was the quarter master sergeant of Echo Squadron. The reason he made news was because he carried his junior, Devesh Joshi, for half a kilometer to complete the cross country race - just because every member who finishes the race gains points for his Squadron - so, Chirag did that for his Squadron.

Imagine what the corporate world performance would look like if we learn a thing or two about camaraderie from these youngsters.

One may argue that corporate world is too pragmatic to carry the load of those who can't carry their own!

The crux lies in the fact that in both cases the onus lies on those who select... Be rigorous in your selection process, but once you get them on board, then you ought to create an environment where everyone watches each others back and everyone is focused on the end game, which is the same for all.

There is tremendous performance pressure and high expectations for outcomes. But there are no silos, no back stabbing, no stack ranking, no monetary incentives. In the final analysis, everything boils down to one word "Culture".

What kind of culture are you building in your organisation. Not in words... through action.
